Israeli Attacks Damage Nearly a Quarter of Lebanon’s Farmland

(MENAFN) Lebanon’s Agriculture Ministry reported on Saturday that ongoing Israeli attacks since March 2 have affected 22% of the country’s cultivated land, according to reports.

In its first weekly assessment since the escalation began, the ministry estimated that roughly 46,479 hectares of farmland have been impacted, representing nearly a quarter of Lebanon’s total cultivated areas.

The greatest destruction was recorded in the South and Nabatieh governorates, with 44,297 hectares affected, compared to 2,181 hectares in other regions. Crops such as fruit trees and olive groves, along with greenhouses and small- to medium-sized farms, suffered the heaviest losses.

The ministry warned that widespread displacement could exacerbate food insecurity, disrupting farming cycles and reducing the available labor force. Additional losses include about 49% of beehives and 39% of fish stocks, along with varying levels of damage to cattle, sheep, and poultry.
